element
element house is about balance and sustainability. the first challenge was to overcome the steep change in level in order to accommodate the architectural program without major earthworks or other interventions that could affect the site’s natural elements.
taking advantage of legal constraints, the main volume is shifted toward the plot boundaries, creating a garden that helps maintain the local microclimate while also serving as an absorption area for excess rainwater collected on site.
in contrast to the garden, the social areas of the residence are positioned to open toward the preserved green mass, which offers privileged views throughout the house. oriented to the north, these spaces receive sunlight throughout the day. to ensure privacy, a garden is placed along the front façade, also protecting the interior from southern winds and helping to balance indoor temperatures.
crowning the upper volume, a solid form rests upon the lower slab, with strategically placed openings that frame the surrounding views and the reflecting pool. this water feature assists in humidity control, further contributing to a balanced microclimate.
