sotille

as the name reveals, casa sottile is about subtlety petrified into an architectural gesture, where a 50-meter prism rests upon the hill to observe the mass of vegetation that frames the view toward which the residence is oriented.

the project unfolds in an unconventional way, as the main hall and entrance occur within the private block. this block combines metal and wood, contrasting coldness with warmth; the dark structure is designed in a rhythm that frames the warmth of the wood cladding the private suites. from the main hall, a sculptural helical staircase rises over a reflecting pool toward the double-height social space, which integrates with the exterior through a large transverse lap pool — materialities that also challenge each other with the juxtaposition of stone and water.

from the subtlety of uniting opposites, of creating voids within solids, emerges an architecture that in its simplicity becomes complete.
